1923–1927
Construction began in 1923. The hotel’s history page dates the grand opening of Kasino Hotel Zoppot to 30 June 1927, with a week of festivities and a silk menu bearing the coats of arms of Gdańsk and Sopot. From the start the house was conceived for affluent spa guests and the Sopot casino of that era. Early bathrooms even offered a separate tap of Baltic seawater.
1939–1945
The same hotel chronicle records seizure by German military authorities and use as accommodation and offices for high-ranking officers. The structure survived without major destruction, but luxury gave way to military function.
1946–1950
Partial reopening came in the summer of 1946 under the name Grand Hotel Sopot, managed by the Gdynia-America Line. The hotel dates Orbis ownership to 1950. Gaming on the modern Polish licence belongs to a later chapter; this stretch is the rebuilding of a seaside hotel, not a casino brand history.
1989–1990
Casino Sp. z o.o. states that it has operated casinos in Poland since 1989. Published histories of the Grand note that the hotel launched a casino in 1990 — described as the third in Poland after Warsaw and Kraków. The present brand on this address is Cristal Casino, listed by the same operator at ul. Powstańców Warszawy 12-14.
2005–today
Accor’s restoration began in autumn 2005; the house reopened as five-star Sofitel Grand Sopot. Cristal Casino remains listed at the same street. The Ministry of Finance’s provincial information on permitted casinos records Casino Sp. z o.o. at this Sopot address. Entry is limited to adults aged 18 or over under the Gambling Act of 19 November 2009.
